New Owners of Butte Creek Mill
Bob Russell and his wife, Debbie are the new owners of the Butte Creek Mill in Eagle Point. They purchased the mill in June 2005.
Bob has been a collector of antiques since the age of nine, when he would find old bits and pieces, in his native town of Portland. He has always loved history and preserving the past. Antiquing is what first brought Russell to Eagle Point.
You can watch the miller,Mike Hawkins, who has been the miller for some 20 years, monitor the process from the main floor.
The mill features a series of planters filled with flowers across the front of the building and benches are placed so that people can sit and enjoy the area and look at Butte Creek as well.
The first floor of the mill has an inviting entry area where the visitor can view the miller working, hear a video about the mill, and enjoy a showcase filled with old pictures and mill memorbila. The downstairs is an interpretive center that allows people to see and understand the water wheel grinding process.
Antique lovers don't have to wait to see changes already at the mill. Authentic old signs, hundreds of containers of all shapes and sizes line the shelves, all from the Russell's own antique collection.
The Russell family has moved truck after truck of antiques down from their Portland area residence. Those items are for sale in the antique store, which used to be an old cheese factory, adjacent to the mill. There is an old-fashioned soda fountain, old barber chair, advertising, collectables and much much more.
The Russells are living in Eagle Point and look forward to being involved in the community. They have three grown children.
